Download Instagram Videos on PC – Free Guide
Last updated: October 25, 2026
A computer is often the easiest place to download an Instagram video, because you can see the full link in the address bar, check the result on a large screen, and manage the saved file with a normal file manager. This guide covers downloading Instagram videos on PC in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and other desktop browsers, including the small browser settings that cause most failures.
The method uses the browser only. You copy the link of a public Instagram video post or Reel, paste it into the video downloader, and save the result. You do not need to install a desktop app, and you should never enter your Instagram password on a downloader site. Private, deleted or restricted videos cannot be downloaded, and a link to a profile or explore page will not work.

What you need
You need the link of a public Instagram video, plus a desktop browser. On a computer you have two easy ways to get the link: copy it from the address bar while the video is open, or use the three dots on the post and choose Copy Link. You do not need an Instagram login for the downloader.
Step 1: Open the video and copy its link
In your desktop browser, open the public Instagram video. Copy the address from the address bar, or click the three dots on the post and choose Copy Link. A video link usually contains instagram.com/p/ or instagram.com/reel/.
Step 2: Open the Instagram Video downloader HD
Open the Instagram Video downloader HD in your browser, in the same window or a new tab.
Step 3: Paste the link and press Download
Paste the link into the box at the top of the page. Check that the full address is there, with no missing characters, then press Download and wait for the result card.
Step 4: Save the video to Downloads
Use the download button on the result card. Your browser saves the video to its default Downloads folder, or asks where to save it if you have turned on Ask where to save each file. You can open it straight from the browser download list.
On Android
If you also use a phone, the steps are the same except for the link step: on Android, open the video in the Instagram app, tap Share or the three dots, and choose Copy Link, then paste it into Chrome. On a computer, the address bar gives you the link without opening the app at all.
On iPhone
On iPhone, open the downloader in Safari. After the file downloads, it does not automatically appear in the Photos app, and this is the point that confuses most people. Safari saves downloads to the Files app, not directly to Photos. Tap the download icon in the Safari address bar, tap Downloads, then tap the file to open it. To move it into Photos, tap Share and choose Save Video for a video or Save Image for a photo. If you only look in Photos and cannot find the file, check Files first, because the download almost certainly succeeded there. If Safari asks where to save, choose Downloads so you can find it again in Files. If you also use an iPhone, remember that Safari on iPhone saves to Files, not directly to Photos, and you must use Share and Save Video to move a video into Photos. On a PC there is no such second step: the browser Downloads folder is the final destination.
On a computer
On a PC, the most useful setting is in the browser itself. In Chrome, go to Settings, then Downloads, and check whether Ask where to save each file is on. If it is on, choose a folder you will remember, such as Downloads. If it is off, the file goes to Downloads automatically. In Edge and Firefox the equivalent setting is also under Downloads, and the same advice applies: pick one folder and stick to it.
PC quality, sound and file management
The saved video is the version Instagram serves for that public video, so quality and sound follow the original upload. An HD result means the video offers a high-quality version; a low-resolution upload stays low-resolution, and no downloader can upgrade it. A video plays with its sound when the original includes it, so check the result in a media player before you assume the sound is missing.
A computer also makes file management easier than a phone. Rename the video straight away if you plan to keep several, because browser downloads often arrive with similar names. Moving a finished video out of Downloads into a named folder prevents the common problem of a Downloads folder full of files you can no longer identify.
Troubleshooting
The browser blocks the download
Check the download icon in the address bar or the browser download list. Allow downloads from this site if your browser asks, and check that you are not in a restricted work or school profile that blocks downloads.
The link is a profile or explore link
Open the video itself and copy its address from the address bar, or use the three dots on the post and choose Copy Link. Profile and explore links will not return a video.
The video has no sound
Check the original video in Instagram. If the original has no sound, the saved file will not either. If it does, play the saved file in a media player such as VLC to rule out a player problem.
The file is saved but you cannot find it
Open the browser download list and choose Show in folder. If Ask where to save is on, check the folder you chose last time, because the browser remembers it.
Use downloaded content responsibly
Downloading a public video does not give you ownership or permission to republish it. Keep a saved video for personal use unless the creator has given you permission to share it further, and respect music, faces and brands inside it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I download Instagram videos on PC?
Open the public video in your desktop browser, copy its address, open the video downloader, paste the link and press Download, then save the video to Downloads.
Do I need to install software on PC?
No. The downloader works in your desktop browser, so there is nothing to install.
Where are downloaded videos saved on PC?
They are saved to the browser Downloads folder, unless you have turned on Ask where to save each file, in which case you choose the folder each time.
Do I need an Instagram account or password?
No. The downloader does not ask you to log in, and you should never enter your Instagram password on a downloader site.
Can I download videos from a private account on PC?
No. Videos from private accounts are not accessible, so the downloader cannot fetch them.
Why does the saved video have no sound?
Check the original video first. If the original has no sound, the saved file will not either. Otherwise, try a different media player.
Can I reuse a video I downloaded on PC?
Only if you own it or have permission from the creator. Follow Instagram terms and the copyright rules where you live.
