Download Instagram Reels on Android – Guide

Last updated: October 25, 2026

Android makes Reel downloads straightforward, because Chrome saves files to a Downloads folder that gallery and file apps can both see. This guide covers the Android-specific taps, the places a saved Reel can hide on different Android phones, and the small settings that cause most failures, so you can save a public Reel in under a minute.

The method uses the browser only. You copy the Reel link in the Instagram app, paste it into the Reels downloader, and save the video from the result card. You do not need to install a downloader app, and you should never enter your Instagram password on a downloader site. Private, deleted or restricted Reels cannot be downloaded, and a link to a profile or to the Reels tab will not work.

Quick answer: In Instagram, tap Share on the Reel and choose Copy Link. Open the Reels downloader in Chrome, paste the link and press Download, then save the video to Downloads. Public Reels only, no login needed.

What you need

You need the link of a public Instagram Reel, the Instagram app to copy it, and a browser such as Chrome on your Android phone. You do not need an Instagram login for the downloader. Storage permission is normally handled by the browser itself, so if a download is blocked, check the browser download settings rather than installing another app.

Step 1: Copy the Reel link in the Instagram app

Open the Reel in Instagram, tap the Share arrow (the paper-plane icon), and choose Copy Link. Wait for the confirmation that the link was copied before you leave the app.

Step 2: Open the Reels downloader in Chrome

Open Chrome and go to the Instagram Reels downloader. Tap the link box and choose Paste, or paste by hand. Check that the full instagram.com/reel address is present.

Step 3: Press Download

Press Download and wait for the result card. If the page seems stuck, check your connection and make sure the link was pasted in full, with no missing characters at the end.

Step 4: Save the video to Downloads

Use the download button on the result card. Chrome saves the video to the Downloads folder. You can open it from the Chrome download list, from the Files app, or from your gallery Downloads album, depending on your phone.

On Android

Android phones differ in where they show Downloads, and that is the main source of confusion. On most phones, open Files, tap Downloads, and the Reel is there. On Samsung phones, the Gallery app may show it under Albums and Downloads, while on Pixel phones the Files app is the most reliable place. If a video does not appear in the gallery straight away, open Files first: the download almost certainly succeeded, and the gallery may simply need a moment to index it.

On iPhone

On iPhone, open the downloader in Safari. After the file downloads, it does not automatically appear in the Photos app, and this is the point that confuses most people. Safari saves downloads to the Files app, not directly to Photos. Tap the download icon in the Safari address bar, tap Downloads, then tap the file to open it. To move it into Photos, tap Share and choose Save Video for a video or Save Image for a photo. If you only look in Photos and cannot find the file, check Files first, because the download almost certainly succeeded there. If Safari asks where to save, choose Downloads so you can find it again in Files. If you also use an iPhone, note the difference: on iPhone, Safari saves to Files and you must use Share and Save Video to move a Reel into Photos. Android does not need that second step in most cases, because Downloads is already visible to gallery apps.

On a computer

On a computer, the same Reel link pasted into a desktop browser saves to the Downloads folder. The Android steps here are specific to Chrome on a phone, but the link-copying step in the Instagram app is identical on every device.

Android quality, sound and storage

The saved Reel is the version Instagram serves for that public Reel, so quality and sound follow the original upload. A Reel uploaded in lower quality stays lower quality, and a video plays with its sound when the Reel includes it. There is no way to upgrade a Reel beyond what the creator uploaded, and an HD label on the downloader refers to the best version the Reel offers.

Storage is rarely a problem for a single Reel, but a long session of downloads can fill a phone. If a download stops part-way, check free space and your connection before blaming the tool. Clearing old downloads from the Downloads folder is the simplest fix, and it also makes the Reels you want to keep easier to find.

Troubleshooting

The video is not in the gallery

Open Files and tap Downloads first. The file is usually there, and the gallery may need time to index it. On Samsung phones, check Albums and Downloads in Gallery.

Chrome asks where to save, or blocks the download

Allow downloads for Chrome in your phone settings, and choose Downloads as the folder. Do not install a random downloader app to work around a browser setting.

The link does not work

Copy the link again from the Reel with Share and Copy Link. Private, deleted or restricted Reels cannot be downloaded, and a profile link will not work.

The download stops or is very slow

Check your mobile data or Wi-Fi connection, and try again. If another public Reel downloads fine, the problem is with the first Reel or the connection, not the tool.

Use downloaded content responsibly

Downloading a public Reel does not give you ownership or permission to republish it. Keep a saved Reel for personal use unless the creator has given you permission to share it further, and respect music, faces and brands inside it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Copy the Reel link with Share and Copy Link, open the downloader in Chrome, paste the link and press Download, then save the video to Downloads.

Do I need to install an app on Android?
